KINGS BAY, Georgia – Information Systems Technician 1st Class Geneve Hails, a native of West Palm Beach, Florida, currently serves as an instructor at Information Warfare Training Command (IWTC) Virginia Beach, Learning Site Kings Bay, Georgia.

Hails enlisted in the United States Navy in July 2002, and following boot camp, she attended Information Systems Technician (IT) “A” school in Great Lakes, Illinois. Upon graduation, she reported to Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station San Diego, where she worked to become a supervisor for the Message Center and Tech Control. Hails also served aboard USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), where she earned her enlisted surface and aviation warfare specialist qualifications.

Hails, no stranger to the responsibilities of an instructor, first taught in 2009 following a positive screening and selection to instruct at the IT “A” school in Pensacola, Florida. While there, she achieved her Master Training Specialist certification, enlisted information warfare qualification, multiple certifications for information security, and was formally recognized as a Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert.

After completing follow on tours in Diego Garcia and with Patrol Squadron (VP) 45, she returned to instructor duty in her current role at IWTC Virginia Beach Learning Site Kings Bay, where she provides training for three courses: Network Security Vulnerability Technician, Information Systems Security Manager, and Key Management Infrastructure Operating Account Manager.

In addition to her numerous accomplishments, Hails used her remaining off-duty time to continue her education and received her associate degree in Cisco networking from Coastline Community College. She is currently pursuing her bachelor’s degree in computer networks and cybersecurity.

“Knowing that I’m able to introduce our extensive knowledge of the course I’m presenting to my students is the most fulfilling feeling,” shared Hails. “Preparing my students to understand their job in the fleet is vital to the Navy. The training ensures my students will protect our networks from outside and insider threats and provide training to their Sailors and commands to prevent any unnecessary issues. Inspiring my students to do their best will always be in the best interest for our Navy. I always tell my students to strive for success and to never hold yourself back. You never know how far you will succeed if you never try.”

IWTC Virginia Beach, located in Dam Neck Annex, currently offers 65 courses of instruction in information technology, cryptology, and intelligence with an instructor and support staff of 280 military, civilian, and contractors who train over 6,500 students every year. It is one of four schoolhouses for the Center for Information Warfare Training (CIWT) and oversees learning sites at Jacksonville and Mayport, Florida; Kings Bay, Georgia; and Groton, Connecticut to continue aligning IW community training.

With four schoolhouse commands, two detachments, and training sites throughout the United States and Japan, CIWT is recognized as Naval Education and Training Command’s top learning center for the past three years. Training over 21,000 students every year, CIWT delivers trained information warfare professionals to the Navy and joint services. CIWT also offers more than 200 courses for cryptologic technicians, intelligence specialists, information systems technicians, electronics technicians, and officers in the information warfare community.
