Pacific Angel 19-3, an international Indo-Pacific exercise to assist local communities and improve regional partner capabilities, concluded Aug. 5, 2019, after a closing ceremony was held in Sumber Soum, Mongolia.

The exercise, which began July 29, was a multilateral endeavor with service members from the U.S. Air Force, Mongolian armed forces, Royal Australian air force and Nepalese army working side-by-side.

While in-country, engineers repaired local infrastructure and medical teams hosted mass casualty response exercises and subject-matter expert exchanges where medical professionals discussed their experiences and best practices.

“This was a very good training opportunity because we are the first responders that would arrive on scene during an event like this,” said Mongolian armed forces Capt. E. Ulzii Jargal, who participated in a mass casualty exercise as a representative of the National Emergency Management Agency. “I really enjoyed this training and really hope that this type of training continues in Mongolia in the future.”

During the closing ceremony, the U.S. Ambassador to Mongolia and the Mongolian Minister of Defense spoke to the audience about the importance of maintaining a strong relationship between the two countries.

“[PAC ANGEL 19-3] shows how deeply the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command is committed to our ties with Mongolia and to helping people throughout this region,” said Michael S. Klecheski, U.S. ambassador to Mongolia.

Pacific Angel is a joint and combined humanitarian assistance engagement, which has been enhancing participating nation’s humanitarian assistance and disaster relief capabilities while providing beneficial services to people in need throughout South and Southeast Asia for more than a decade.
