NASHVILLE, Tenn. (Aug. 13, 2019) – Andrew Stanford, civil engineer in the Surveying and Mapping Section, is the Nashville District Employee of the Month for June 2019.

Stanford is being recognized for his significant contributions and outstanding assistance on the Lock C Barge Improvement Project. Lock C is on the shoreline of the Cumberland River in Montgomery County, Tenn., and is being redeveloped for reassignment to the U.S. Army Garrison at Fort Campbell, Ky.

Stanford’s work with the project delivery team determined that a full site plan redesign would be required. His team accepted the challenge, achieving the redesign and updates in three weeks to meet the contracting deadline in time for a fiscal year 2019 award.

“Andrew definitely works hard, plays a vital role in completing tasks and is an invaluable asset to our office and team," said Frank Mills, Nashville District Survey and Mapping Section chief.

According to Mills, in just months of working in the survey and mapping section, Stanford gained an incredible amount of knowledge and experience.

Mills said Stanford is all about meeting deadlines and thinks that no challenge is too difficult. He added that Stanford takes great pride in his work and always helps his team to continually improve design processes.

“He simply is the epitome of someone who always strives to make those around him better," said Mills.

Stanford is a native of Fredericksburg, Va., and currently a lieutenant serving as an infantry officer in the Kentucky National Guard. He began working at the Nashville District in October 2018. He has a civil engineering degree from the Virginia Military Institute and previously worked with the Virginia Department of Transportation.

“This is a great job and I really love working with every member of this team," said Stanford.

Stanford contributes his organizational skills, positive attitude and work ethic to his military career and says he likes working for the Corps of Engineers.

Jonathan Truelove, civil engineer and co-worker in the Surveying and Mapping Section, said Stanford is driven, balanced, very organized and a team player who is dedicated to doing great more great projects for the Nashville District.

“His work ethic speaks for itself,” said Truelove. “He always approaches every job with a great attitude, sticks to his plans and stays focused. I think his military experience helped mold him and shape his skillsets because he is very organized, a natural leader and a team player that directly contributes to the Survey and Mapping Section’s success in the district.”

Stanford said he is aware of the prestige of winning the employee of the month award and is honored to be recognized.

In his off duty time, Stanford loves to spend it with family and friends. His hobbies include anything outdoors, especially fishing and hiking. He also loves reading, writing, Greek poetry and philosophy.

Lt. Col. Sonny Avichal, Nashville District commander, said Stanford is a tremendous asset to the Nashville District and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

“His outstanding performance along with his positive ‘can do’ attitude for service significantly contributes to the mission of the district," said Avichal.
