CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait - After one year of serving as the Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 335th Signal Command (Theater) (Provisional) commander and first sergeant, 1st Lt. Caroline C. Shaw and 1st Sgt. Shéshé A. Lang bid farewell during a combined change of command and change of responsibility ceremony held at the Camp Arifjan Theater.
Shaw, a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve in 2011 as an Information Technology Specialist after graduating from California University of Pennsylvania. She previously deployed to Camp Arifjan from 2013 to 2014. During her remarks, Shaw reflected on her time as the HHC Commander. "Even though this position as HHC Commander has come with challenges, I want to reflect on the positive things that have happened, and things we accomplished as a team over the past year," Shaw said. "We've been able to promote several very deserving Soldiers, celebrated our Soldiers graduating from Basic Leadership Course, U.S. Army Air Assault Course, and U.S. Army Central Signal University and obtaining Information Technology certification,"
1st Sgt. Lang, a native of Chicago, Illinois, enlisted in the U.S. Army in September 1999 as a Common Ground Station Operator. Her previous deployments included Camp Bondsteel Kosovo, Al Udeid Airbase, Qatar, and Bagram Airbase, Afghanistan.
During the ceremony, Brig. Gen. Dion Moten, commanding general 335th Signal Command (Theater)(Provisional), thanked the outgoing command team for their dedication, hard work, and leadership. "Detachment 36 has a lot, really, to be proud of," said Moten. "When you look at some of their accomplishments over this last year, they've done some things that this theater has been trying to accomplish for years." Moten also welcomed the new command team of Capt. William A. Brinson and 1st Sgt. Yesenia S. Cooper, "Capt. Brinson and 1st Sgt. Cooper, you are our command team, team being the optimum word." Moten further stated, "Like anytime you must work together and be in sync."
Capt. Brinson, incoming commander and Augusta, Georgia native, commissioned as an Ordnance Officer in 2012 after graduating from Georgia Southern University. During his remarks, Brinson said he was looking forward to his second command. "1st Lt. Shaw, Detachment 36, 1st Sgt. Lang, y'all came into an unfamiliar situation, whether good, bad or ugly, kept your head up, pushed through and left one awesome product for Detachment 12 to pick up on."
1st Sgt. Cooper, incoming first sergeant, is a native Texan, joined the U.S. Army in July 1990 as an Information Systems Operator. Her previous mobilizations and deployments include Hungary, Bahrain, Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
The 335th Signal Command (Theater) (Provisional) is headquartered in Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, and provides communication services to coalition and joint forces located at over 30 sites in 11 Southwest Asia countries. It is comprised of over 2,000 Soldiers, civilians and contractors. Its headquarters consists of more than 80 percent Army Reserve Soldiers who serve 12-month assignments. Designated as a provisional command in 2005, it is under the operational control of U. S. Army Central Command. The unit's primary effort is the planning, engineering, installation, maintenance, and defense of the Army's portion of the DoD Information Network in the Southwest Asia region.
