WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (NNS) -- Twenty four future Sailors from Navy Talent Acquisition Group (NTAG) Pittsburgh took the oath of enlistment at the Go Bowling at the Glen Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race August 4.

NTAG Pittsburgh’s executive officer Cmdr. Brandon Smith, from Sperry, Oklahoma, administered the oath in front of a sold out crowd at Watkins Glen International.

“I am proud of these future Sailors,” said Smith. “It was an amazing opportunity to be able to show the local community that these young men and women, from their own community, are willing to raise their right hand and commit to serving and defending their country.”

Hundreds of NASCAR fans lined up to congratulate the future Sailors as they exited the stage.

“It was very inspiring,” said Mike Richards, a NASCAR fan attending the race from Rochester, New York. “This is the future of our Navy and I have a ton of respect for them already.”

The future Sailors were escorted by Navy Counselor 1st Class Mark Tobias, from Hammondsport, New York, and Gunner's Mate 2nd Class Christopher Donahue, from Corning, New York.

“This is the best part of my job,” said Tobias. “Seeing these young future Sailors take the oath, and seeing how supportive and excited the crowd was, is why I love doing this.”

Future Sailor Connor Carrigan, from Corning, New York, was joined by his family to watch him take the oath.

“I’ve been waiting a long time to enlist, it felt great, and my family is very excited,” said Carrigan, who is joining Navy’s Nuclear Field (NF) program.

NTAG Pittsburgh, part of Navy Recruiting Command, recruits the next generation of Navy Sailors throughout areas in Pennsylvania, New York, West Virginia, and Maryland.

Navy Recruiting Command serves more than 1,330 recruiting stations across the world to attract the highest quality candidates and assure the ongoing success of America’s Navy.
