[CAMP PENDLETON, Calif., July 26, 2019] A Post and Relief ceremony for the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) took place here, Friday.

Sgt. Maj. Brian A. Priester relinquished the sword of office to Sgt. Maj. Stuart D. Glass during the morning ceremony. The sergeant major of a MEU is the senior enlisted advisor for the commanding officer. While in garrison the sergeant major leads approximately 100 Marines and Sailors. Once deployed, they may have upwards of three thousand.

Glass arrives to the 13th MEU from 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division, where he served as the regimental sergeant major. During his 27 years of service, he has deployed with the 13th, 15th and 31st MEU’s amongst multiple Special Purpose Marine Air Ground Task Forces.

"I look forward to the challenge of building a team of disciplined, professional Marines and sailors who will thrive while forward deployed in the service of our country,” Glass said. “It is a humbling opportunity."

During the ceremony, Priester retired from the Marine Corps following 27 years of honorable service. For his dedication and commitment, Col. Andrew Priddy, commanding Officer, 13th MEU, presented him with the Legion of Merit Medal in recognition of his exceptionally meritorious service as the unit's sergeant major.

“The experience was continuously rewarding while I was at the 13th MEU,” Priester said. “The 13th MEU is the definition of ‘The tip of the spear’, hand selected professionals that are always ready at a moment’s notice. I owe my success to all of them.”

The 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit is assigned to I Marine Expeditionary Force in Camp Pendleton, Calif. Our mission is to provide a forward-deployed, flexible Marine Air Ground Task Force capable of conducting a wide range of military operations around the world.
