The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District is excited to announce that work began on July 9th, 2019, two months ahead of schedule, to conduct temporary measures to secure the damaged west pier in Little Sodus Harbor, located in Fair Haven in Cayuga County, New York. Site work is expected to be complete in late July to early August 2019.
"The Corps utilized a unique contracting strategy to construct temporary measures to secure the pier as quickly as possible," said Lex Barker, Project Manager. "The main goals are to prevent further damage to the pier and to construct permanent fencing to prevent public access to the damaged concrete cap area."
Safety is the utmost concern at this time of year due to higher recreation. The Corps of Engineers asks the public to take caution by avoiding the damaged sheetpile.
Additional federal funding will be needed for a permanent repair to the damaged area. The repair work at Little Sodus Bay pier will have to compete against other federal infrastructure needs across the Nation, for limited funds, before repairs can be implemented.
