The 385th Air Expeditionary Group celebrated its one year anniversary of being activated at Al Udeid Air Base on May 14, 2019.
As a tenant unit of the 379th Air Expeditionary Wing, the nine person command team from the 385th is responsible for two bases and six squadrons between AUAB and Ali Al Salem, Kuwait.
With more than 700 Airmen in theater, the 385th AEG makes it possible to deliver supplies, people, fuel, and combat airpower anywhere in the AOR at a moment’s notice.
“In its first year, 385th AEG flew more than 14,600 airlift and refueling sorties and 20 combat airdrops,” said Col. Adam Wiggins, 385th AEG commander. “Additionally, 385th Airmen passed over 80 million pounds of fuel to 7,778 coalition aircraft, delivered 249 million pounds of cargo, carried over 150,200 passengers and transported 106 aeromedical evacuation patients to urgent care facilities.”
The combination of Air Mobility Liaison Officers, maintainers and support personnel, gives the 385th the ablility to provide options to the Combined Forces Air Component Commander including but not limited to airland (air assets supporting land forces), airdrop, and aerial refueling.
The 385th AEG is the only group in Air Mobility Command capable of redeploying anywhere around the world. The capabilities of the group, provide Air Force Central Command with the ability to provide and deliver combat resources to the warfighter.
A key point in helping the 385th AEG Airmen maintain mission focus is the current host/tenant relationship.
“The best part of being here is building the relationship and the people that we have doing the job,” said Chief Master Sgt. Christopher Ninteau, 385th AEG superintendent. “While we are taking care of them they are able to fully be able to take care of the mission.”
“If our people have a need or an issue comes up we go and resolve it,” said Wiggins. “Our job can be complicated, but we make it simple and straight forward...”
