CAMP ARIFJAN, Kuwait — While the U.S. Army ramped up their response to the housing crisis at bases in the continental United States, the 1st Theater Sustainment Command’s Operational Command Post (1TSC OCP) was already at work ensuring that forward deployed Soldier housing was safe.
Lt. Col. Annie M. Lee, 184th Sustainment Command’s director of logistics, also serving as the 1TSC OCP director of logistics, knew attention would be focused overseas as part of a comprehensive Army response.
“We knew it was coming, and that was OK. We are required to inspect housing in theater annually, so we just added emphasis and accelerated the schedule.” said Lee.
With a footprint the spans the Middle East, the deliberate coordinated effort resulted in over 2,300 rooms inspected and 190 work orders submitted.
All issues were minor and have been resolved, with the exception of housing units in Kuwait situated in low lying areas. The 2018 Kuwait rainy season saw a 60% increase over normal rates, resulting in high volume rainwater accumulation and ponding.
The Area Support Group – Kuwait facilities management team continues to evaluate potential engineering solutions.
The 1st Theater Sustainment Command’s Operational Command Post continues its ongoing safe housing program through command emphasis and enforcement of Army housing inspection standards.
