When someone brings up the Fourth of July, one of the first things come to mind is fireworks.
While fireworks can be fun and exciting, many places in Las Vegas will put on shows, and some people will want to put on shows of their own. While this can add to the fun, it also adds to the risk.
Fireworks are very heavily regulated in the Las Vegas area. In fact, the only time they are legal to sell here is the week leading up to the Fourth of July. The only fireworks that can be bought and used during that time are the “Safe and Sane” variety fireworks.
Safe and Sane isn’t a brand, but rather a qualification of firework that means that they do not explode, rocket or leave the ground after being fired.
Examples of Safe and Sane fireworks are fountains, sparklers, smokeballs, snake-type fireworks, ground-spinning fireworks, pinwheels and most other novelty fireworks.
Violating laws and regulations involving fireworks are punished with hefty fines and sometimes jail time as well, if the fireworks are unsafely discharged near people or buildings.
Independence Day weekend is a fun time and allows service members to celebrate the history and freedom that they help preserve every day. It’s important to recognize that taking care of the health and safety of service members means that they can return to work after the weekend, and continue to defend these freedoms.
