KRIVOLAK, North Macedonia - Pfc. Alexandra Brought is a supply specialist with Alpha Company, 2nd Battalion, 112th Infantry Regiment, 56th Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 28th Infantry Division, Pennsylvania Army National Guard.
Brought is originally from Lewistown, Pa. and currently attends Bloomsburg University with the goal of going to medical school and becoming a cardiothoracic (heart and chest) surgeon.
To Brought and her family, joining the National Guard soon after graduating high school in 2017 seemed like a good way to pay for her schooling, while also serving her country and community.
Brought holds the distinction of being the first female in the Pennsylvania National Guard to be assigned to a line unit. A line unit refers to a company in an infantry regiment that performs a traditional infantry role, rather than support.
Staff Sgt. Ryan Bennett, her supervisor in another company, asked her to join him when he transferred to Alpha Company from Headquarters and Headquarters Company in April, 2018.
Before coming to North Macedonia, Brought went to training exercises at Fort Drum, N.Y. and the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, Ca.
Brought said she does not mind being the only female in the unit, and that no one has treated her differently than other Soldiers in the Company.
“The best thing about being in Alpha Company is that I have a whole bathroom to myself,” Brought said jokingly.
“Supply is great, it can be really busy and hectic at times, but as long as you make sure your Soldiers get what they need, everything runs smoothly.”
Brought is currently assisting with supply duties as part of Decisive Strike 19, co-led by the Army of the Republic of North Macedonia and the 56th Stryker Brigade. This is the first exercise of its kind here, with the largest U.S. involvement ever.
