    FORT SHAFTER, Hawaii (June 25, 2019) -- Pacific Ocean Division (POD) headquarters welcomes senior leaders from Japan’s Ministry of Defense (MOD) June 24-25 at Fort Shafter, Hawaii, to receive updates on alliance related initiatives.

    During the visit, MOD’s Director General for Facilities and Installations, Minister's Secretariat Hirotomo Hirai, as well as other MOD staff members, also briefed partners from U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, Naval Facilities Pacific and Marine Forces Pacific, in addition to U.S. Army Pacific, Installation Management Command Pacific and the Defense Logistics Agency members on topics related to facilities construction in Japan.

    As part of the information exchange, POD and Japan Engineer District members also facilitated project site visits to military and civil construction projects on Oahu in an effort to communicate how POD enables a forward posture, as well as provides enduring water resource solutions and services through various efforts.

    POD Commanding General, Brig. Gen. Thomas Tickner also provided his perspective on the significance of the engagement.

    “Each engagement with MOD allows us to deepen our treasured alliance and partnerships as we work together in support of military and host nation projects, which contribute to the forward posture of the joint force in Japan and beyond.”

    As a symbol of their long-time friendship, MOD and POD senior leaders also to conducted a gift exchange, following an office call.

    “Mr. Hirai and his team have always been and will continue to be trusted partners as we carry on the important work ahead of us and explore new ways to collectively embraced our shared values of a ‘Free and Open Indo-Pacific’,” Tickner said.

    POD and POJ leaders expect ongoing engagements in the near future to continue ongoing discussions.
