Construction of the I.G. Brown Training and Education Center’s new billeting office continued this week, with visible progress seen in some vertical steel structure raised, some initial concrete block laid, and from other work at the building site located on the eastern edge of the campus on McGhee Tyson Air National Guard Base near Knoxville, Tennessee.

Base Civil Engineer Squadron officials said last fall that an adequately designed billeting office under Air Force standards is required to provide customer service to all personnel attending enlisted professional military education in-residence training programs, professional continuing education, and base unit training assemblies.

Construction cost is about $1.39 million.

The layout is 2,400 square feet. There is a lobby area for check-in and check-out. There are accessibility standards implemented for the disabled and blind.

The building is out front and visible to arriving personnel too. The new location allows delivery drivers and others to drive and park vehicles at the main office without using pedestrian sidewalks, among many other improvements and additions.

Blueprints show the building’s layout with a central entrance that leads into a 1,325 square foot lobby area, with a reception desk centered at the back of the room. A doorway to the left, past the reception desk, leads to a 287 square foot office space. A corridor at the back, on the right side of the lobby, leads to a restroom.

Officials said that they plan to convert the current billeting desk and main office at the Moon Hall dormitory building into additional dorm and laundry facilities, which will help increase operational capacity.
