The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Buffalo District is excited to announce the beginning of remediation at the Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP) Tonawanda Landfill Vicinity Site Property. Groundbreaking began on June 12th, 2019 with the first containers shipped off site to a disposal facility in Bellville, Michigan occurring on June 18th, 2019.
"The Corps' wide range of technical expertise has come together again with our local, state and federal partners to initiate another very important project, the Tonawanda Landfill Vicinity Property remediation," said David Romano, Buffalo District Deputy District Engineer. "We look forward to delivering another project safely and quickly, with protection of human health and the environment as the top priority."
"Following extensive investigation and planning we are pleased to see this federal cleanup project move to the remediation phase under the experienced leadership of the Buffalo Army Corps,” said Congressman Brian Higgins. “Cleanup of this site is important for this neighborhood and good for the larger Tonawanda community."
