ARLINGTON, Va. (NNS) – In an effort to seek prospective employees, U.S. Fleet Cyber Command/U.S. 10th Fleet (FCC/C10F) participated in the Service Academy Career Conference (SACC) in Arlington, Va., June 13 - 14.
Administered and supported by the Alumni Associations and Association of Graduates of the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, SACC is the only job fair exclusively for service academy alumni.
SACC gave FCC/C10F personnel the opportunity to interact with many prospective employees and have in-depth conversations with them in order to evaluate their skill sets.
Capt. Anne Casey, FCC/C10F assistant chief of staff (ACOS) of innovation and capability, and Capt. Colin Chinn, FCC/C10F ACOS for plans, policy and engagements, provided an overview of FCC/C10F’s mission and capabilities. They also spoke about where and how the civilian work force fits into the command.
“We do have quite a few openings coming up,” said Chinn. “It’s not all about Fort Meade or the D.C. area. We also have civilian positions down in Miami and out in Hawaii.”
On June 14, hiring managers and human resource specialists met with candidates, answering questions pertaining to the hiring process and offered information about the command while representatives from Human Resources Office Norfolk and the Office of Civilian Human Resources screened candidates and made tentative job offers.
“This is our first time participating in SACC and the first event of this magnitude we have ever attended,” said Lt. Cmdr. Lauren Zack, FCC deputy for human resources, “Our goal is to attract highly talented candidates to join the Navy civilian cyber force utilizing our direct hire authority and compete with private industry. Our goal is to find talent and place them in positions to best support our mission.”
Under the new Cyber Excepted Service (CES), hiring managers have the discretion to utilize direct hire authority and spot hire through agile recruitment sourcing outside of the traditional confines of the USAJobs platform, further enhancing the strategic goals of the Office of the Department of Defense, Chief Information Officer, Principal Cyber Advisor, and U.S. Cyber Command.
The civilian CES personnel system was established as an Enterprise-wide approach to effectively manage civilian cyber professionals. CES provides agencies with the needed agility and flexibility for the recruitment, retention, and development of high quality cyber professionals.
FCC is responsible for Navy information network operations, offensive and defensive cyberspace operations, space operations and signals intelligence. Comprised of over 14,000 Sailors, Reservists and civilians stationed across the world, C10F is the operational arm of FCC and executes its mission through a task force structure similar to other warfare commanders.
