NORFOLK, Va. — The Norfolk District, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the city of Portsmouth, Virginia, are slated to conduct a joint aerial mosquito spray over federal properties Wednesday, with the backup day Thursday.

Weather permitting, the contracted spraying is scheduled between 5 -10 p.m. in Churchland-area Portsmouth, Craney Island and adjacent city properties north of State Route 164.

Beekeepers in affected areas do not need to take special precautions, as the chemical used doesn't impact bees. People with known allergies should stay indoors.

The Portsmouth Mosquito Hotline provides continuous updates on all aerial mosquito spraying in the area at 757-393-8666.
