PEORIA, Ill. (June 14, 2019) — Maj. Charles Schierer, a judge advocate with Peoria’s 182nd Airlift Wing, Illinois Air National Guard, was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel, with a date of rank of Feb. 9, effective May 30.
Schierer has served in the Illinois Air National Guard for five years, where he prepares and provides legal opinions and decisions necessary for efficient and effective discharge of the mission of the U.S. Air Force. He served with the U.S. Navy Judge Advocate General Corps for five years prior to joining the Air Force’s reserve component.
“Lt. Col. Schierer has always been a vital part of wing’s mission, and I know his expertise is deeply appreciated by everyone from the newest Airman all the way up to the wing commander,” said Col. Steven Thomas, the vice commander of the 182nd Airlift Wing. “This promotion is well earned. We’re excited to see his career progress in this next chapter of his service to the state and country. We couldn’t be prouder.”
As a 51J3 qualified-level judge advocate, Schierer is responsible for serving as trial or defense counsel in courts-martial, preparing legal briefs and rendering advice regarding laws pertaining to military personnel and their dependents.
Schierer is recipient of awards and decorations including the Navy Achievement Medal, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with oak leaf cluster and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. He is a traditional drill-status Guardsman who practices criminal defense, personal injury, business and family law in his civilian occupation.
