New X-Ray system increases safety on JBA

JOINT BASE ANDREWS , MD, UNITED STATES

    06.03.2019

Story by Senior Airman Alyssa Van Hook

    316th Wing

On June 3, 2019, JBA installed a Z Portal Vehicle X-Ray, used to conduct a more thorough search of commercial vehicles entering the installation. The new system is capable of scanning 250 trucks per hour compared to the old method -- manual inspection -- which could search approximately 80 trucks per hour. This system makes JBA a more secure entry-point for inbound commercial vehicles by enabling Defenders to conduct quicker and more effective searches, preventing entry of unauthorized weapons, explosives, drugs, personnel and other contraband. With the help of the 89th Airlift Wing, 11th Security Forces Group, 11th Civil Engineer Squadron, 11th Contracting Squadron, the Presidential Airlift Group, 11th Comptroller Squadron and the Air Force District of Washington, this project has enhanced the security of JBA.
