Airmen raise 54 flags for special events

MCGHEE TYSON AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, Tenn. -- U.S. Air Force Airmen assigned to the I.G. Brown Training and Education Center campus operations office raised the nation's state flags along Briscoe Drive here in East Tennessee this morning, May 30, 2019, in preparations for an Airman Leadership School graduation and a change-of-command ceremony.

Campus operations raise the flags for special events. They fold and store the flags on regular duty days, which helps increase their longevity.

The Airmen number the flag boxes to ensure the flags fly in the correct order of statehood. If the weather is inclement, they will wait for the flags to dry before lowering and storing them.

Tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. EDT, U.S. Air Force Col. Kerry R. Lovely will pass command of the I.G. Brown Training and Education Center to U.S. Air Force Col. Kenneth Lozano, giving the Air National Guard’s main learning center a new commander.

Later that evening, at 6:00 p.m., Airman Leadership School Class 19-7 gathers for a formal banquet in the campus activities center to recognize and graduate students from their five-weeks of enlisted professional military education.
