PANAMA CITY, Florida – Commanding Officer Capt. Aaron Peters of the Naval Surface Warfare Center Panama City Division (NSWC PCD) selected Petty Officer First Class Joseph Rodriguez as Sailor of the Quarter, Second Quarter 2019.

“Petty Officer Rodriguez 's exceptional motivation and performance as Leading Petty Officer was evident as he meticulously planned and assisted with providing the necessary Diver Life Support System equipment in support of Valiant Shield, May 1, 2018,” said Peters. “This was an Indo-Pacific Command biennial field training exercise and his expertise in deliberate risk assessment contributed to becoming the third and only dive team to successfully accomplish the mission in demanding conditions.”

A Native of Reading, Pennsylvania, Rodriguez graduated Reading Senior High School’s class of 2003. Looking for opportunities to see the world, Rodriguez decided to join the U.S. Navy Aug. 12, 2004.

“It’s one thing to always want to travel to distant countries for meaningful memories,” said Rodriguez. “But to be able to do so while setting records of precedence in service to my country creates unforgettable experiences and shared history with my peers that will last a lifetime.”

Peters commended Rodriguez for “meticulous planning” and “expertly-performed service” and cited him for exemplary service that also extended to Panama City’s local community, too.

“Rodriguez’ involvement in the community has also included 40 hours volunteering as Head Basketball coach for the Navy Child Youth Programs’ all-girls team,” said Peters. “His exceptional professionalism, initiative, and devotion to duty reflected credit upon himself and the United States Naval Service.”
