MIAMI – Soldiers of the 260th Military Intelligence (MI) Battalion welcomed their new commander during a change of command ceremony held at Ballard Armory in downtown Miami. Lt. Col. Erik Froehlich assumed command from Maj. Gaddy Nuñez, the battalion’s executive officer. Froehlich is a military intelligence and counterintelligence officer with several years’ experience from working at the National Guard Bureau and the New York National Guard.
“I want to make sure that the soldiers of the 260th Military Intelligence Battalion are the readiest soldiers that the Florida Army National Guard has to meet the needs of the state and the nation,” Froehlich said.
During the ceremony, Lt. Col. Felix Rodriguez, Deputy Commander for the 50th Regional Support Group, thanked Nuñez for his service and presented him with a Meritorious Service Medal. Rodriguez highlighted Nuñez’ exceptional job ensuring the unit’s readiness as battalion commander and welcomed Froehlich and his family to Florida.
“I look forward to working with you, Lieutenant Colonel Froehlich, and I know that the knowledge you bring from the National Guard Bureau G-2 will only help the battalion move to the next level,” Rodriguez said. “I wish you the best of luck as you take on the awesome opportunity to command.”
Also known as the “Panther Battalion,” the 260th Military Intelligence Battalion was established in 1988 with the unique mission of conserving perishable linguist and intelligence skills within the National Guard. Since its inception, soldiers of the 260th have supported operations in Central and South America, Bosnia, Kosovo, Cuba, Afghanistan, Iraq, Kuwait, Jordan, Turkey and Syria, in addition to state civil and emergency missions.
