DOVER AIR FORCE BASE, Del.,— Team Dover hosted a segment of the Philadelphia Eagles 2019 National Football League draft April 27 in a maintenance hangar at Dover Air Force Base, Delaware.

Three service members from Team Dover were selected to announce the Eagles’ 4th round draft-pick selections.

“My flight chief emailed me about the opportunity while I was deployed,” said Tech Sgt. Brian Hampton, a 512th Maintenance Squadron aerospace ground equipment technician. “I called everyone in my family. The most special call was to my grandmother who’s also a die-hard Eagles’ fan.”

Hampton said he’d been an Eagles’ fan for 30 years and had traveled across the country to watch his beloved team play.

He returned from deployment two weeks prior to the event and received the opportunity to participate as one of the draft-pick announcers.

Additionally, two other 512th Airlift Wing reservists were selected to go be stage as the draft picks were announced.

Staff Sgt. Anthony Benjamin, one of the two service members who went the stage, brought his brother, another longtime Eagles' fan.

“My brother has been a fan as long as he’s been alive,” said Benjamin, the flight chief of the 512th Development and Training Flight. “I knew he would be excited to be a part of the draft. Plus, he also got a tour of the aircraft.”

More than 150 people attended the NFL draft event in the base’s Isochronal Inspection Dock where attendees could tour a C-5M Super Galaxy, enjoy a burger burn hosted by USO Delaware and watched performances by Eagles’ cheerleaders.

“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity,” said Hampton. “Not everyone can say they’ve done it. I’m glad to have been chosen to be a part of the Eagles’ history.”
