The Onslow County Partnership for Children hosted the 17th Annual State of the Child Breakfast at the Onslow County Government Complex in Jacksonville, North Carolina, April 26, 2019. Local community leaders get together every year to recognize April as the month of the military child, as well as Child Abuse Prevention month.
The breakfast featured a number of prominent speakers, including Jacksonville Mayor Sammy Phillips, First Lady of North Carolina Kristen Cooper and Marine Corps Child of the Year Jaxson Jordan
“By lifting up our at risk children, we lift up our entire community, we lift up our state and we lift up our nation,”said First Lady of North Carolina Kristen Cooper.
With the theme of this year’s breakfast being “Connections Matter”, one of the main points that was discussed is how the local community leaders can network in order to support the local children in a more efficient and effective way.
“I want to believe that we can solve all of our community’s problems just with who I see in the room. I see business leaders, I see government leaders, I see people who donate money and I see people who know a thing or two about children and families in this room,” said Dawn Rochelle the executive director for Onslow Country Partnership for Children. “All together we can solve a lot.”
At the conclusion of the event, local military and civilian leaders signed the annual Child Abuse Prevention Proclamation, a pledge to support and take care of the local Jacksonville children.
