Senior Airman Jesse Fimian, 104th Maintenance Group munitions systems specialist, recently received news of his acceptance to the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado, which has an 11.9 percent acceptance rate to the enlisted member program.

Fimian said that the most difficult part of the application process for him was actually making the decision to apply.

“Attending the academy is easily one of the biggest decisions of my lifetime,” said Fimian. “As a 20 year old I barely knew what I wanted my life to look like in the next year or so, and to look a decade down the road was rather daunting.”

Commissioning has been one of Fimian’s personal career goals since his enlistment, and he decided that the Air Force Academy was the best way for him to get there, he said.

“I found the challenges and opportunities in terms of the character and educational development that the Academy has to offer appealing to me,” said Fimian.

After an extensive application process, Fimian finally received the news of his acceptance to the Academy at 1 a.m. while he was overseas on a deployment at Kunsan Air Force Base, South Korea, through a FaceTime call from Col. Peter T. Green III, 104th Fighter Wing commander.

“The 104th Fighter Wing team was thrilled to see Senior Airman Jesse Fimian selected to attend the Air Force Academy Preparatory School,” said Green. “He is a true reflection of the type of talented young Airman we have in our in our Wing and the Air National Guard. We are fully confident when he graduates from the Air Force Academy, he will be a superb new officer somewhere in the Air Force enterprise.”

After he completes the two Basic Trainings he has to get through before he begins his education at the Academy, Fimian plans to study political science and is already looking at the many extracurricular activities that the Academy has to offer.

Fimian said he plans to go into either the Space Operations or Maintenance field after, but he has some time before he has to choose and is planning to explore all his options before making a decision.
