    Chung-Hoon Completes Visit to Bahrain

Sailors aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Chung-Hoon (DDG 93) completed a port visit to Bahrain, April 11.

While in port, Chung-Hoon Sailors completed crucial maintenance aboard the ship, but also explored Bahrain and experienced the country’s culture.

“My favorite part about Bahrain was definitely the food,” said Electronics Technician 2nd William Glynn. “I was surprised by the amount of amazing restaurants there were. I also enjoyed seeing the culture because it's so different from our own.”

This visit was much more than just being able to take a break from life at sea. It was about continuing a strong relationship with Bahrain to promote stability and security in the region.

“Our partnership with Bahrain allows for shared cooperation that carries far greater effects throughout the Middle East to where the United States, alongside Bahrain and other regional countries, can promote a unified effort to maintain the free flow of maritime global commerce, as well as work to ensure stability for the region,” said Cmdr. Brent Jackson, Chung-Hoon’s commanding officer.

While the Sailors were glad to have some time off ship, some were eager to get back to sea and continue with normal operations.

“Although I enjoyed Bahrain, I was definitely ready to get back underway,” said Glynn. “I enjoy being out to sea.”

Chung-Hoon continues to establish conditions that enhance trust, cooperation and mutual respect in the region.

Chung-Hoon is deployed to the U.S. 5th Fleet area of operations in support of naval operations to ensure maritime stability and security in the Central Region, connecting the Mediterranean and the Pacific through the western Indian Ocean and three strategic choke points.
