Kentucky native assumes command of Fort Campbell Warrior Transition Battalion

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. – A Kentucky native assumed command of the Fort Campbell Warrior Transition Battalion during a change of command ceremony on post, April 18.

“I’m extremely excited to have this opportunity to give back to some of our most deserving Soldiers. I believe it’s a truly noble mission and a great opportunity to help Soldiers and families from across the Army and give back to the Fort Campbell community,” said Lt. Col. Heath Holt, incoming WTB commander, who relieved Lt. Col. Shawn Butler in leading a team of Soldiers and civilian employees responsible for providing personalized support and care to wounded, ill and injured service members.

Holt grew up in Greenville, Kentucky and graduated from Danville, Kentucky’s Centre College with a degree in history. After graduation in 2001, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Army’s
Medical Service Corps and assigned to Fort Campbell as a medical platoon leader with 2nd Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division. The unit stood down in 2005. Holt later attended and graduated flight school at Fort Rucker, Alabama, and transferred to the Army’s aviation branch. He returned to Fort Campbell where he served as flight platoon leader, 50th Medical Company, Air Ambulance.

“Fort Campbell has always been home for us, for my wife and I, and we’ve been trying to get back here ever since we left in 2006 so we’re super excited to be back and be part of this community and to be
here on Fort Campbell,” said Holt, whose wife, Lt. Col. Danielle Holt, is assigned to Blanchfield Army Community Hospital as a general surgeon and chief of general surgery.

Holt comes to the WTB from the Department of the Army Staff, Deputy Chief of Staff G-8 for Aviation Force Development. He has multiple deployments starting in 2002 and most recently in 2014 to 2015 when he served as the executive officer of a general support aviation task force deployed to Liberia in support of Operation United Assistance.

His other assignments include 3rd Battalion, 25th Aviation Regiment followed by 25th Combat Aviation Brigade at Wheeler Army Air Field, Hawaii; 1st Battalion, 52nd Aviation Regiment at Fort Wainwright, Alaska; and 2nd Battalion, 502nd Aviation Regiment, 1st Armored Division Combat Aviation Brigade, Fort Bliss, Texas.

“Lt. Col. Holt has a diverse background of assignments at the brigade, division, Army headquarters and interagency level. I know he comes prepared and ready to take on this tremendous responsibility and
will continue to build upon the successes and achievements this great team at the WTB has already accomplished under Lt. Col. Butler,” said change of command presiding officer, Col. Anthony McQueen, U.S. Army Medical Department Activity Fort Campbell and Blanchfield Army Community Hospital commander. “I truly hope you and your family will look back fondly on the friendships, adventures, and memories you’ll make while serving at this great installation and extraordinary command.”

Fort Campbell’s WTB is one of about 10 units Army-wide that provide mission command, medical management assistance and transition assistance to wounded, ill and injured Soldiers requiring six months or more of rehabilitative care and complex medical management.

The Fort Campbell WTB complex is directly across the street from Blanchfield Army Community Hospital, where Soldiers receive much of their medical care. The WTB complex includes the Soldier and
Family Assistance Center, barracks, company and battalion headquarters, adaptive reconditioning and occupational health facilities.
