Naval Air Training Command (NATRACOM) distinguished two individuals as the inaugural Civilian and Senior Civilian of the Year, April 12.
Chief of Naval Air Training (CNATRA) Rear Adm. Greg Harris presented the NATRACOM awards to Patricia Mumford for Civilian of the Year and Rick Weaver for Senior Civilian of the Year.
“I continue to be impressed by the quality of work put out by our civilian team,” said Harris. “We are always looking for new ways to recognize some of our extraordinary support staff, and the winners of this new award embody everything our team at CNATRA is doing right.”
CNATRA invited all the nominees for this inaugural award to Naval Air Station Corpus Christi to take part in the ceremony. In addition to the ceremony, the nominees toured flight simulator facilities at Training Air Wing 4 on base – a chance for them to see firsthand the impact of their daily work. Each nominee had the chance to get behind the controls of T-6B and T-44 simulators as well as the newly implemented T-6B virtual reality simulators.
Weaver, the administrative officer with Training Air Wing 6 at NAS Pensacola, Florida, is responsible for the effectiveness of administrative policies and procedures for more than 800 military instructors, student naval flight officers, civilians, and contractors.
“It was a great honor being selected as the NATRACOM Senior Civilian of the Year for 2018,” said Weaver. “It was humbling to be selected amongst the other candidates considering the quality work my fellow competitors demonstrated throughout the year towards the CNATRA mission of training the world’s best naval aviators.”
Mumford, a support services supervisor with Training Squadron 22 at NAS Kingsville, Texas, is responsible for the effective management of aviation training jackets, log books, and naval air training and operating procedures standardization (NATOPS) jackets. During 2018, she was responsible for the planning, coordination, and administrative requirements for two jet training carrier qualification detachments.
“It is always nice to be recognized for your hard work, and this was above and beyond anything I could have imagined,” said Mumford. “I enjoyed getting to spend the day at CNATRA and seeing where some of our student naval and Marine aviators begin their training. I also have a whole new respect for the hard work and effort it takes to be selected for these pipelines.”
