The 3rd Wing and 673d Air Base Wing, along with numerous volunteers and helping agencies, provided resources during a welcome reception on April 8, for inbound Tyndall Air Force Base Airmen and families being stationed at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska.

“When we first arrived, leadership displayed a lot of consideration and compassion,” said U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Nicholas Chaplin, 90th Aircraft Maintenance Unit integrated avionics technician. “Having this resource fair really showed us that they were intentional about making sure our needs can and will be met.”

The JBER Support to Tyndall Airmen and Families Reception was a one-stop information fair connecting them with the appropriate agencies to address their immediate and specific needs and to learn more about services they offer.

“The situations most of us are facing are not going to go away quickly,” Chaplin said. “A lot of us own homes still and are now having to figure out how to get them fixed or rented out from here, which can complicate matters. Also, some of our peers who are still inbound or were not able to be here today can now reach out to their peers who might now be armed with the knowledge of how to help direct them to resources available to them.”

Participants were given the opportunity to hear directly from resource providers and then meet with them on an individual basis for whatever tailored needs they might have.

“We want our people to get the support they need,” said U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sgt. Brian Stafford, 3rd WG command chief. “Our hope is that they can continue to reach out and utilize the resources that are available to them and let us know about the things they are dealing with, no matter how great or small.”
