Smiling faces, laughter in the air and bunnies!
What could be more perfect than an Easter egg hunt to celebrate the Month of the Military Child?
April is designated as the Month of the Military Child; it is a time to honor the sacrifices made by military families worldwide. It emphasizes the experience of children of military members serving at home and overseas.
To honor our children, the 150th Special Operations Wing (SOW) held an Easter egg hunt. The hunt for eggs filled with candies were strewn throughout the grassy area. The children were separated into age groups, which allowed them to find the eggs without too much competition.
“I thought it would be a great idea to have this hunt in honor of the Month of the Military Child and so we celebrate this by opening our doors to the littlest of our family members,” stated Col. Esther Sablan, Wing Commander, 150 SOW.
The egg hunt included face painting and balloon animals made to order, books for all ages, donated by Blue Star Mothers, and a meal of hot dogs and chips provided by our very own 150 SOW Services. Additionally, there was information for parents about benefits learn about.
“The turnout was good! Parents and children alike are all having fun and this is what it means to come together as a family,” said Master Sgt. Rebecca Sander, First Sergeant for the 150th Maintenance Group.
Events such as this allows us to share a part of our military lives with those we love. These events give them a better understanding and in turn evoke questions from the children. Questions such as, “What do you do when you come to work on Saturday and Sunday?” that helps children recognize their parents additional commitments of commitment to serving community and country.
“We want to ensure our families are integrated into the shear fabric of what makes this unit great. We know that our families are a solid foundation for our members and this makes the member’s dedication to service easier to achieve,” Sablan said.
