Texas ANG trains with Polish Air Force

Airmen assigned to the 136th Airlift Wing, Texas Air National Guard, are at Powidz Air Base, Poland, participating in a series of bilateral training exercises and deployments with local forces for Aviation Rotation 19.1. Aviation Rotation (AvRot) supports Operation Atlantic Resolve by demonstrating the United States’ commitment and resolve to NATO allies as they work together on regional security and deterring potential adversaries.

During the rotation, the U.S. Air Force and Polish air forces conduct training focused on maintaining joint readiness while building interoperability, and strengthening threat response capabilities.

“We are grateful for the opportunity to be here and work together with the Polish Air Force,” said Lt. Col. Jorge Caro, 136th AW senior intelligence officer. “Our goal is to share experiences regarding tactics and techniques, combat tested by our wing, and also to strengthen our NATO alliance. Our partnership will allow us to build our deterrence efforts and adapt our readiness and responsiveness in new locations.”

The U.S. has participated in aviation rotations in Poland since 2012 to increase cooperation between the two air forces with the aim of strengthening joint capabilities as NATO allies through regular training exercises.

The 136th has supported a state partnership program with Chile and the Czech Republic since 1993 to include annual joint missions between the sister states, but AvRot 19.1 marks the first time the wing has been involved in Polish-based training, providing the opportunity to operate in an unfamiliar theater with allies.

Joint training efforts include formation flights in C-130 Hercules aircraft, combat offloads and high velocity container delivery system drops.

“Every time we work together [with U.S. Forces] it gives us a chance to become more advanced in our work than when we stay alone,” said Polish Air Force Capt. Przemslaw Milinski, 14th Squadron aircraft commander. “It’s a great chance to learn new things and gain experience from our friends.”

AvRot 19.1 is the first of four iterations scheduled for 2019 with the next rotation incorporating fighter aircraft at Krzesiny Air Base, Poland. These rotations will ensure the ability to quickly respond to threats, and reassure allies and partners that forces are here, in Europe, forward and ready.
