YAVORIV, Ukraine- U.S. Senator Marsh Blackburn, along with the Deputy Commanding General for the Army National Guard, Maj. Gen. John Gronski visited Tennessee Guardsmen deployed here, Mar. 23.

Blackburn represents the state of Tennessee and serves on the Senate Committee on Armed Services and Veteran’s Affairs. She showed her support for the troops by visiting with deployed guardsmen in Poland and Ukraine.

“Soldiers of the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment deployed to Poland and Ukraine were excited to welcome ‘our Senator’ who made an extraordinary effort to come and visit,” stated Maj. Terry Bell. “Senator Marsha Blackburn has always been supportive of the military, and we greatly appreciate that.”

Blackburn personally met with several of the Soldiers and shared similar interests and stories from their memories back home in Tennessee.

“It was a special experience to have our Senator visit us and connect with us on a face-to-face level and share memories from back home - she is exceptionally personable, and it means a lot to know she cares,” stated Sgt. 1st Class Ritchie Hays.

Blackburn was interested in getting to know each Soldier and gladly took pictures with anyone she met.

“We really appreciate these visits and I know it boosts morale among the Soldiers deployed here when a U.S. Senator takes the time to speak with and get to know the Soldiers,” said Sgt. 1st Class Nick Carter.

After the visit, Blackburn and Gronski presented select Soldiers with a coin for their hard work and service towards the mission in Ukraine.

“To all of our troops who are serving here we say, ‘thank you’ - we are proud of you and we hope that our service in elective office does credit to the service and sacrifice that is made by each of you and your families,” stated Blackburn.

Soldiers from the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment are currently deployed to Ukraine supporting the modernization of the Yavoriv Combat Training Center.
