Aviation and Missile Command’s Human Resources Division (G-1) conducted a team building session March 6 at Toftoy Hall.

The training employed the DiSC system of behavioral analysis which aims to strengthen communication, maximize productivity and increase effectiveness. DiSC stands for Dominant, Influencing, Steady and Compliant and is a nonjudgmental tool used for discussion of people’s behavioral differences.

AMCOM G-1 took the day to recommit to communication principles as it moves into its newly renovated spaces at the Sparkman Center.

“We want to make sure we communicate clearly with our customers,” HR specialist Bill Baxter said.

Studies have shown that to be effective, teams need trust, communication, common goals, mutual respect and tolerance. The most effective teams are those comprised of people who possess differing strengths and more importantly, the ability to identify and apply those strengths appropriately. DiSC helps teams identify motivations, stressors, and problem solving through improving working relationships, facilitating better teamwork and managing more effectively by understanding the dispositions and priorities of employees and team members.

“As senior leaders, we need to be able to explain why,” AMCOM Training Specialist Steve Fisher said.

“The goal is continue developing talents that already exist by establishing common language across G-1 to improve our communication with team members, boost our teamwork, improve morale, and allow each of our team members to recognize and capitalize on their strengths and the strengths of others,” Chief of Training and Career Management Tanya Allbritten said. “If I can better understand my personal behavioral style, and what I need to work effectively, then I will be better able to recognize and meet the needs of the people I support across AMCOM.”
