Urbana, Illinois – Sgt. Robert J. Hughes Jr. of Chicago Ridge, Illinois, was awarded the Army Achievement Medal during a ceremony at the Urbana Readiness Center in Urbana March 3.
Hughes is a Multichannel Transmission Systems Operator assigned to Headquarters, Headquarters Company, 33rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (IBCT), Illinois Army National Guard based in Urbana, Illinois.
According to the award citation, Hughes demonstrated the ability to quickly adapt to changes and took on responsibilities beyond his rank to meet the needs of the mission during the 33rd IBCT’s Warfighter exercise. Hughes served as the non-commissioned officer in charge of the unit’s S6 signal operations during the exercise.
