FORT GORDON, Ga. – Instructors at the Center for Information Warfare Training (CIWT) Det. Fort Gordon developed and have been delivering advancement training to Navy Information Operations Command (NIOC) Georgia Sailors.

March 1 marked the end of the second iteration of advancement rating training provided by CIWT Det. Fort Gordon instructors, Cryptologic Technician (Collection) (CTR) 1st Class Kevin Barnes and Cryptologic Technician (Collection) 1st Class Justin Freeman. The two instructors developed the training last fall for the September 2018 advancement cycle by creating over 300 slides consisting of relevant information from the CTR rating bibliographies and rate training manuals, and delivered the training to over 50 NIOC Georgia Sailors.

The training was designed to expose Sailors to a broad range of information and is organized into seven topic sections reflecting the advancement exam profile sheets that break down a Sailor’s test scores.

“Our goal was to take thousands of pages of documentation from the bibliographies and summarize them into easily digestible blocks of study,” said Barnes. “We made it a point to direct students to the proper references for each topic so they could study more in-depth on their own time if they desired.”

This iteration of training was offered as a full day of training once a week for four weeks leading up to the advancement examinations. CTR and Cryptologic Technician (Interpretive) rated Sailors in paygrades E1-E6 were offered the training and over 40 registered and attended.

The CIWT Det. Fort Gordon instructors collaborated with Center for Military Advancement and Training (CMATT), an advancement resource for the intelligence community on the classified network, to make the training material available to a wider audience, and to collaborate with other commands to enhance and unify CTR rating training.

Fort Gordon delivers trained information warfare professionals to the Navy and joint services, enabling optimal performance of information warfare across the full spectrum of military operations.
