DHAKA, Bangladesh- 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment officer, Cpt. Teri Calvert reenlisted U.S. Marine nephew, Cpl. Ryan Rivers at the U.S. Embassy, here, Feb. 25.

“I cannot put into words the emotions that I felt during that reenlistment ceremony,” stated Calvert.

Calvert and Rivers were joined by the U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh, Earl R. Miller and members of the staff for the reenlistment ceremony held on the roof of the U.S. Embassy building.

“How many people can say that during their military career they had the opportunity to conduct a reenlistment ceremony on the roof of a U.S. Embassy, with the Ambassador present, in a foreign country?” asked Calvert. “I was honored to be asked to conduct his reenlistment ceremony.”

“This allowed me to show my pride in him and my appreciation for the opportunity to serve at the same time, though in different branches.”

Calvert is currently deployed to Ukraine supporting the mission for Joint Multinational Training Group-Ukraine and traveled to Bangladesh for the ceremony.

“My aunt has been there for me - she raised me for a significant amount of time, and I wanted her to reenlist me,” stated Rivers. “I wanted to give something back to her because she has been there for me a lot of times in my life that others were not.”

Rivers enlisted in the Marine Corp in 2015 and is currently assigned to Marine Security Guard-Dhake at the U.S. Embassy in Bangladesh.

“I am just very honored and grateful that my aunt took the time to visit me and reenlist me here, and I am looking forward to continuing my career in the Marines,” said Rivers.
