STEWART AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, N.Y. (Mar. 10, 2019) — Senior Airman Samantha Sanders, assigned to the 105th Communications Flight, grew up surrounded by the military.
Her step-father was a Petty Officer 1st Class in the Navy and she enlisted in June of 2015 into the Air Force for the education benefits.
“It was pretty cool, we moved around a fair amount, met a lot of other people like me,” Sanders said. “It was very structured and a lot of hearing ‘pay attention to detail”.
Sanders currently goes to school at State University of New York at New Paltz for Computer Engineering, making the Communications Flight a perfect fit for her.
She said the challenges of her day-to-day job on base provide myriad learning opportunities.
“I like the work, I like the people, its a lot of good stuff, a lot of interesting stuff,” said Sanders.
She feels like her biggest challenge is her personal organization, keeping up with all the work and keeping things straight in a field where many people have different problems.
“While someone has a network issue, but then in the same place they have a phone issue on top of an email issue on top of this, and its just pressing all that into moving as quickly as possible,” she said.
Sanders is enthusiastic about what she’s doing and is especially proud of the work she has done for the Inspector General helping ensure network connectivity and helps maintain the network.
“Right now we’re doing support for the IG and I’m really proud of how well we’re doing that,” said Sanders.
Sander’s supervisor, Sgt. Brandon Woodward, said that “she’s fantastic and one of my best Airmen.”
“She’ll be running this shop one day,” said Woodward.
