Camp Darby, ITALY (March 6, 2019) – Logistic Readiness Center Italy’s Humanitarian Assistance Program at Camp Darby recently shipped five 40-foot containers of humanitarian aid supplies to Oblast, Ukraine, in support of a request by the U.S. Embassy in Kiev.

Excess property consisting of washers, dryers, hospital beds, pillows, blankets and more, will be delivered to the Zhytomyr Women and Infant Rehabilitation Center at Zhytomyr, Ukraine. The center is a well-established maternity center known for its high standards of health care and international cooperation. The clinic is also known for assisting women and children with post-war stress.

“Humanitarian Assistance was requested by U.S. European Command and the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine. They determined that HAP equipment would further sustain this local necessity and provide improved support to the medical treatment and rehabilitation center,” said Janine Wick, DSCA Humanitarian Assistance Program manager.

HAP is a DoD operation set up to consolidate non-lethal excess property that has been returned to DLA for reutilization. One of its goals is to provide donations to foreign countries in support of Department of State-sponsored humanitarian projects and contingency disaster relief missions.

“In addition to the supplies provided through the HAP program, the Camp Darby military community, Consolidated Furniture Management Office (CFMO); Morale Welfare Recreation (MWR), and the Camp Darby Youth Services program also provided excess property such as dishwashers, washing machines, refrigerators, and general kitchen appliances.”

Camp Darby’s HAP office has a long history of providing humanitarian supplies throughout eastern Europe and Africa. Over the past couple of years, the office supported projects in Georgia, Lithuania, Croatia, Albania, Senegal, Moldova, Armenia, Estonia, North Macedonia, and Kosovo.
