Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet

Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet (CNSP) hosts the 2019 Women’s Waterfront Symposium, Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at Naval Base San Diego Theater from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. All military and civilian staff personnel are invited and encouraged to attend.

The symposium provides an opportunity to interact with female Surface Warriors and role models from across the Surface Force while focusing on the professional and personal development of Sailors serving at sea. In addition, it will promote an interactive forum for the exchange of ideas, insights and opinions across a variety of topics. The symposium aims to address the challenges that affect women across the surface force and will discuss opportunities, solutions and resources for a successful naval career.

This year’s keynote speaker is Capt. Jen Ellinger, Commanding Officer, USS Lake Champlain (CG 57).

Vice Adm. Rich Brown, Commander, Naval Surface Forces/Commander, Naval Surface Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet, will provide opening remarks.

The symposium coincides with Women’s History Month, which, according to the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI), honors and celebrates the struggles and achievements of American women throughout the United States.

According to the Naval History and Heritage Command (NHHC), the first women to serve in the U.S. Navy were nurses, beginning with the “Sacred Twenty” appointed after Congress established the Navy Nurse Corps on May 13, 1908. Today, women serve in every rank from seaman to admiral and in every job from naval aviator to deep-sea diver.

The mission of CNSP is to man, train, and equip the Surface Force to provide Fleet Commanders with credible naval power to control the sea and project power ashore
