International Security Assistance Forces neutralize three roadside bombs near Sangin

KABUL, Afghanistan – International Security Assistance Forces based in Sangin, northern Helmand, successfully deactivated three potentially lethal roadside bombs earlier this week.

ISAF forces discovered an improvised explosive device on the roadside of a well-traveled and busy junction on March 12. ISAF troops immediately went to work defusing the bomb, and once safe to do so, the troops moved the device out of harm's way. While moving the IED, forces discovered two more IEDs and successfully removed them without incident.

The bombs were taken a short distance away to a safe area and after ensuring that there were no civilians nearby, all bombs were safely destroyed.

"These IEDs are designed to strike indiscriminately; placing them on by a busy junction used by locals shows the Taliban clearly have no regard for lives of local people," said Commander Paula Rowe, spokesperson for Task Force Helmand. "The Taliban have consciously chosen to use these cowardly devices, showing no regard for life. The quick reaction of ISAF troops stopped death or serious injury to the people of Sangin."
