Troop Support staff office ‘steps into the breach,’ thanked by commander

Four acquisition professionals from the Defense Logistics Agency Troop Support were recognized for their teamwork and accomplishments Feb. 6 in Philadelphia.

Joan Estelly, Raeshon Falkowski, Eileen Friel and Nate Prattico, all from DLA Troop Support’s Procurement Directorate, received certificates of appreciation and a command coin from DLA Troop Support Commander Army Brig. Gen. Mark Simerly as thanks for their contributions to the Construction and Equipment supply chain during a period of high demand and employee turn-over.

“Where we see challenges in the organization, we find ways to overcome those challenges,” Simerly said. “Your team stepped forward, solicited volunteers to go down and work shoulder-to-shoulder with their C&E teammates and it had an immediate impact.”

Some of the contributions recognized on the employees’ certificates of appreciation include:

- Estelly’s previous experience as a buyer proved valuable to C&E and helped in processing high numbers of requests and availability of materiel such as sealants and lubricants.

- Falkowski assisted with C&E’s Heavy Equipment Procurement Program, aiding in the award of a five-year long-term contract for commercial construction equipment purchases, and furthering progress on the award of a government trucks and trailers contract.

- Friel helped to secure a five-year contract for commercial generators in light of the increased requirement for portable power in the wake of record hurricane seasons, and also aided in furthering progress on the award of a government trucks and trailers contract.

- Prattico, experienced in acquisition of C&E materiel, was able to provide immediate impact, awarding more than 700 “small buys,” acquisitions valued less than $250,000, during his time with C&E.

Director of C&E Navy Capt. Gerald Raia also thanked the employees.

“I want to express my extreme appreciation for the support from [the Troop Support Procurement Office],” Raia said. “They do a lot to enable the warfighter and enable the supply chains to get the job done, and I saw a new level [of support] in having them physically come over and help us – thank you.”
