A free, nine-week Financial Peace University course sponsored by the Kirtland Chaplain Corps is being offered to anyone with base access every Tuesday from Feb. 12 to April 16, 2019.

Financial Peace University is a nine-week intensive stewardship training course that empowers service members to take responsibility, strategically remove debt and build wealth. The Bible is used as the standard for these principles.

The course is being offered in two locations during different times of the day in hopes to meet people’s needs.

One location for the class will be at Gravity from 6 to 8 p.m. The other location will be at Bldg. 1019 across from the 58th Special Operation Wing headquarters, from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Lunch will not be provided during the course.

“Financial Peace University helps you get a hold of your finances,” said Chap. (Capt.) Thomas Peck, 58th SOW chaplain. “The principles it teaches helped my wife and I get out of debt six years ago and I am passionate about getting these materials into our Airmen’s hands. This class has helped everyone from E-1’s to O-6’s at Kirtland get out of debt and build wealth. You won’t regret attending.”

Those that have attended the course at Kirtland in the past have, as a whole, paid off $676,339.86 in debt, added $320,466 to their savings and closed 110 credit cards. They have also provided testimonials to the usefulness of this course.

“This class opened my eyes to the importance of having an emergency fund,” said Senior Airmen Aaron Perez, 512th Rescue Squadron aviation resource manager. “I was more worried about paying off my credit card debt and because of this, I did not have an emergency fund. I finally have been able to accomplish the first baby step, which is having an emergency fund of $1,000. I have also paid off most of my credit card debt using the snowball method. I truly appreciated having the opportunity to take the financial peace course.”

According to Peck, the evening class at Gravity is full but the lunch time class still has openings. To register for the class at Bldg. 1019, contact Peck at thomas.peck.4@us.af.mil.
