Garrison seeks community input for town hall

KAISERSLAUTERN, Germany – Now through Feb. 12, community members have an opportunity to bring important issues to the attention of garrison leadership via a community-wide survey.

U.S. Army Garrison Rheinland-Pfalz Commander Col. Jason Edwards seeks frank and honest feedback from community members on how they rate their satisfaction with a number of services in the Rheinland-Pfalz area. With the assistance of the USAG RP Plans, Analysis and Integration Office, survey results will be analyzed and used to shape efforts to produce a town hall Feb. 19.

PAIO Chief Darin Pemberton said the survey’s purpose boils down to this – the garrison commander needs a way to take the temperature of the residents in this community.

“In addition to the commander living within and traveling around Rheinland-Pfalz, the survey gives him a snapshot as to what is important to the community in areas he may not see,” Pemberton explained. He said while no one method of collecting feedback is a sure thing, this survey gives community members the chance to bring important issues to the commander and get prompt feedback on their questions and comments.

Respondents will be asked to rate their satisfaction in areas of Public Works, Emergency Services, Department of Defense Education Activity schools, Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation services, and more.

The survey will give the commander data-driven focus areas for improvement.

Some of the solutions to the survey issues may have quick fixes and the commander might have flexibility to make those changes as they align with regulations, resources and responsible governance, Pemberton said. Others, requiring time-intensive work may be brought into working groups within the garrison headquarters or other appropriate offices.

“But maybe the best outcome – the issues, even those not able for quick fixes, will help create the right dialogues and interest to set the community up for improvements,” Pemberton concluded. “Our leadership is committed to finding answers, producing results and working diligently to make our lives even just a little bit better.”

All community members are invited to attend a town hall at 6 p.m., Feb. 19, at Armstrong’s Club on Vogelweh Housing, preceded by a resource fair from 5 to 6 p.m. A separate town hall for Baumholder residents will follow in the upcoming months.

“I want to know what the community wants and requires,” Edwards said. “I have to articulate what my resource constraints are, but within those constrained resources, I will do what I can to meet the demands of the community. Both the survey and town hall will help guide decisions, especially those directly impacting the community. More importantly, this is a direct engagement opportunity with the community, one that can really make a difference.”
