NMCPHC health analysis was formed in 2009 to increase the connection between the millions of records of healthcare data with providers at the deck plate. Since then, the department has grown significantly, being named the Navy Analytics Team of the Year in 2011, called to serve as subject matter experts in the DoD-wide 2014 Military Health System (MHS) 90-day review, and most recently delivered a data-driven interactive web map that identifies critical areas for embedding mental health resources across the fleet.

"We are proud to help our leaders make evidence-based decisions across a broad spectrum of public health topics," said Cmdr.  Scott Hurd, health analysis department head, adding, "Our achievements are the result of the combined efforts of MANY individuals--the team is what makes it all possible!"

Despite shifts in operational tempo, healthcare initiatives and leadership, health analysis has adapted to meet the needs of Navy Medicine’s evolving mission.  Initially funded by the Wounded, Ill and Injured program, their reputation for expert analytics resulted in increased diversity in funding from other projects, officially becoming a government program of record in 2016. Their advanced analytics skillset is used to support health and readiness topics across the Navy Medicine enterprise.

The combination of expert knowledge of analytics and military health, combined with a customer-service approach allows the team to power decision-making.

“Our guiding principle has always been to provide the most comprehensive and accurate support for our customers,” said Jenny Snyder, health analysis communications lead, “We pride ourselves on being timely, accessible, and reliable.”

This customer-focus has proven successful, as the department has grown to support a diverse customer base including fleet surgeons, Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery (BUMED) program leaders, military medicine interns, hospital leadership, other DoD/government public health entities and many more.

Health analysis will celebrate its anniversary on January 30, 2019 at NMCPHC Headquarters and looks forward to supporting the fleet in the coming decade.
