    Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport

    NEWPORT, R.I. — Dr. Joseph Ambrico, a Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport engineer in the Platform and Payload Integration Department, has won the Department of Defense (DOD) High Performance Computing Modernization Program (HPCMP) Award in the Technical Excellence category.

    Winners in this category demonstrate scientific or engineering excellence using HPCMP resources to advance creative and effective technology.

    In 2017, Ambrico, a resident of Middletown, Rhode Island, used HPCMP resources to conduct simulations with fluid-structure interaction during underwater explosions.

    Ambrico will receive the award at a future ceremony.

    NUWC Division Newport, part of the Naval Sea System Command, is one of two divisions of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center. NUWC Division Newport’s mission is to provide research, development, test and evaluation, engineering and fleet support for submarines, autonomous underwater systems, undersea offensive and defensive weapons systems, and countermeasures. NUWC’s other division is located in Keyport, Washington.
