405th Army Field Support Brigade - Europe & Africa

CAMP BONDSTEEL, Kosovo – Col. Grant L. Morris, commander 405th Army Field Support Brigade and Command Sgt. Maj. James R. Holmes III, 405th AFSB, conducted a site visit of Camp Bondsteel to gain hands-on insight and customer input on their Logistics Civil Augmentation Program mission in Kosovo, Jan.8-10.

Camp Bondsteel is an essential command and supply hub for NATO operations throughout the southeastern Europe region and receives its main base life support and sustainment services through the LOGCAP. The 405th AFSB facilitates LOGCAP in Europe and Africa to augment deployed forces and other organizations with sustainment support services.

LOGCAP is a U.S. Army program that leverages corporate assets to augment current and programmed sustainment force structure. It provides base life support and sustainment services to deployed Soldiers, joint forces, non-military federal agencies and coalition forces in locations throughout the world.

“LOGCAP reinforces military capability with contracted civilian support,” said Bernard Wills, 405th AFSB, LOGCAP senior planner. “The requiring activity provides us the who, what, where, when, why and how often of their requirements and we are making it happen.”

The program provides operation and maintenance for facilities or equipment. LOGCAP services on Camp Bondsteel include morale, welfare, and recreation services, facility management, hazardous material, and waste management, firefighter services, shuttle bus services, food services and more. The 409th Contracting Support Brigade handles the day-to-day direction of the performance contractor.

“We provide the LOGCAP capability to the customer,” Morris said during the weekly installation coordination meeting at Camp Bondsteel, Jan. 9. “We are here to see how we are doing with our services, how LOGCAP interacts with the customer and what you, the customer, need from us. We are here to support you. We like your input on where we can do better.”

“LOGCAP provides excellent services here, said. Della Hodges, director, Area Support Team Balkans. Hodges has oversite over the Kosovo portion of the LOGCAP.
“Services are good, we have no major complaints,” said Col. Roy J. Macareg, commander Multinational Battle Group-East during a meeting with the 405th AFSB command team. “Of course, there are always areas for improvement.”

The visit benefited both the 405th command and their customers. The 405th command team’s visit was appreciated.

“It’s always good that others see us with a fresh eye, I appreciate the time and attention,” said Hodges.

“It was a good visit,” Morris said. “We validated the LOGCAP contribution to our performance contractor and found some areas where we can improve support to the battle group.”
