Joe Flanagan is a Shop 11 mechanic who has been working at PSNS & IMF

Briefly describe your job
“I am currently a mechanic for
Shop 11. I am working on the USS Maine (SSBN 741) project. I am working on restoration of a compartment.”
What do you like about your job at the command?
“I enjoy being part of a team with a singular mission to get the warfighter back out to sea, safe and on time. I like knowing the work we do here every day in the shipyard will make a difference for our military.”
What from your service experience contributes to what you do here?
“During my time in the U.S. Army I learned that there is no I in team. Every member of a team is valuable to complete all tasks big or small. This is also true here in the shipyard. Thousands of workers coming together to ensure our warfighters make it out safe and on time is a beautiful thing.”
What makes you proud of your military and job experiences?
“I joined the military to be part of something bigger than myself. The shipyard—Shop 11— has provided me the opportunity to continue this as a civilian. Supporting the military’s mission to provide freedom both home and abroad gives me motivation to continue the great work we do at PSNS & IMF.”
