Nevada Air National Guard “High Rollers” have helped the Evelyn Mount Food Distribution both at Thanksgiving and Christmas for the past eight years. The High Roller leading the pack with this effort has been Master Sgt. Caroline Cousineau of the 152nd Airlift Wing Comptroller Flight.
“It has been eight fantastic seasons and I am so sad to see it end,” Cousineau said, “I will miss all the hugs from folks in our community that were so grateful for our help. I will miss helping the parents and kids pick out toys for Christmas, but most of all I will miss the camaraderie it brought to our guard family.”
Evelyn Mount, urged by family and doctors to retire this year, after leading the food drive the past 40 years, hung up her hat with her final distribution on Jan. 1.
Mount said when the Airmen began volunteering (in 2011), it saved the event.
"They are a blessing," Mount said. "They came in and showed leadership in coordinating everything from organizing food distribution lines, helping to direct parking and made sure all the lines of customers stayed calm with no incidences. I couldn't have done it without them, and I hope I have their help every year."
After the High Rollers began their volunteer work, they vowed to make it an annual –they did just that for eight years.
“I loved working with other High Rollers to make a difference in our community,” Cousineau added.
Now that Cousineau will have some spare time around the holidays, she will focus her energy on helping out the Salvation Army’s “Toys for Tots” program. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact her in the Comptroller Flight.
