DESTIN, Fla. – Members of the 7th Special Forces Group (Airborne) and their families attended a resiliency training event held at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort, Dec. 7, 2018, here.
The resiliency event, entitled “It’s All About Colors,” provided service members and families with skills that strengthen family bonds, work relationships and friendships. Ready and Resilient or R2 is the Army's strategy for strengthening Soldiers and family personal readiness by fostering a culture of trust.
The day-long course focused on a variety of resiliency exercises including a workshop and group activities. Organized by the 7th Special Forces Charitable Trust, the event started with breakfast, followed by workshops for adults and children. Maj. Peter Hofman, the 7th SFG (A) chaplain, expressed that military life can be difficult and present challenging work tempos and deployments.
“The Color Works” team provided interactive training for adults and age-appropriate information for children. Topics were covered such as how to successfully be a single parent while your spouse is deployed," said Hofman.
“This event is not just for the Soldier, which a lot of times our events are. We understand that the Soldier often brings home stress and problems from work that affects the family. This training is about resiliency for the whole family.”
Family member’s identified their personality traits by color and learned skills and techniques on different ways to communicate and parenting, according to those personality traits.
“The way the training is conducted is very interactive and it helps the kids to understand their parents and in turn, the parents better understand their children,” said Hofman.
Children learned all about four personality types and how to identify which personality color matched their own. The resiliency event was geared towards teaching military families how to bounce back from challenges and struggles they have.
“The training taught us how to communicate and humbly talk to our spouses,” said a 7th SFG(A) Soldier whose identity is being withheld for security purposes. “It also taught us how except responsibility for mistakes we made instead of trying to put it off on someone else.”
At the completion of the training families had a stronger set of resiliency skills.
