FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. (Nov. 22, 2018) — Fort Leonard Wood held its traditional Thanksgiving Day celebration Thursday in several dining facilities on post, with meals for service members and guests.

The banquet included 7,000 pounds of turkey, 1,200 pounds of shrimp, 2,000 pounds of beef and assorted cakes and pies with all of the accompaniments.

William Moffitt, Installation Food Program manager, describes the annual feast as the “Super Bowl” of meals for the installation.

“More than 400 food service employees prepare, and then serve the meal, with unit commanders,” he said. “We provide nearly 12,000 meals during the lunch celebration and more than 30,000 meals total throughout the day.”

"The Army and each branch of service who train on Fort Leonard Wood celebrate this day with high regard," Moffitt said. "It is a day to reflect on sacrifices and accomplishments, of those who are deployed, and the professionals dedicated to ensure our warfighters are ready to be sent with the force of the best. The day is relaxed. Our trainee's realization is evident in their glow that they are in an unforgettable moment in life being on a very diverse and special team for good of a great nation."

Moffitt said it’s great to see everyone enjoy the meal, and he is proud to serve with the team that provided more than 11,500,000 meals to military service members this year.
