Navy Officer Recruiting Station Opens in Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY (NNS) – Navy Recruiting Command (NRC) opened its newest Navy Officer Recruiting Station (NORS) in Oklahoma City, Dec. 27.

Assistant secretary of the Navy (manpower and reserve affairs), retired Rear Adm. Gregory J. Slavonic attended the ceremony as well as the Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt.

“Every Sailor here is important to the mission of the Navy," said Slavonic. "Oklahoma has a strong history of recruiting the finest, and the Navy values your efforts in bringing in the future of the fleet.”

During the ceremony Holt expressed his appreciation for the U.S. Navy and their presence in the city.

“To the men and women here, thank you so much for your service,” said Holt. “We have a very special relationship here with the United States Navy and we are very honored to have their presence here.”

This is the 35th recruiting station that falls under the area of responsibility of Navy Recruiting District (NRD) Dallas and will serve as a core resource for recruiting future officers into the Navy.

"We are excited to open up the first and only Navy Officer Recruiting Center in Oklahoma," said Cmdr. Brock Miller, commanding officer of NRD Dallas. "Currently we have two officer recruiting locations; one in Irving and the other in Lubbock, Texas. This new location will be our third to open, giving us a much larger footprint for Navy exposure."

NORS Oklahoma will provide a full-cycle recruiting experience by establishing an educational base line for qualified applicants in a centralized location with recruiters and processors.

"We are expecting to recruit 42-thousand qualified applicants into the Navy," said Lt. Charles Long, a medical officer recruiter assigned to NORS Oklahoma City. "Our job as officer recruiters is to ensure that the best and brightest enter the Navy. In return, the Navy offers generous scholarship programs, benefits packages and state-of-the-art training from which qualified applicants can benefit."

NRD Dallas encompasses 220,000 square miles through Northwest Texas and Oklahoma and is committed to providing active and reserve opportunities to qualified candidates.

NRC consists of a command headquarters, three Navy Recruiting Regions, 20 Navy Recruiting Districts and six Navy Talent Acquisition Groups that serve more than 1,300 recruiting stations across the country. Their combined goal is to attract the highest quality candidates to assure the ongoing success of America’s Navy.
